High spirits at Lichfield auction as bottle of whisky sells for £4,600

SPIRITS were high at The Lichfield Auction Centre as a bottle of whisky sold for £4,600.

The Macallan 25 Years Old anniversary malt, pictured, was the first lot of the day on Tuesday, May 23, starting a run of 90-plus lots showcasing a cellarful of collectable wines, spirits, Champagne and cognac.

“Macallan is one of the most highly esteemed Scottish whisky brands of all time,” said Rob French, wine and whisky specialist at Richard Winterton Auctioneers.

“This bottle, an anniversary malt distilled in 1958 and bottled in 1984, is highly sought after by collectors.

“What a superb auction result for our client.”

Other popular lots included a bottle of Bruichladdich WMD ‘Whisky of Mass Destruction’ 1984, an Islay single malt, which sold at £900.

It was amongst a collection of other whiskies from the same vendor which sold for a total of £3,970.

Wine in the sale at The Lichfield Auction Centre included 12 bottles of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru-Les Corvees Pagets – an ‘exceptional’ 1996 wine from the Cote d’Or, noted Mr French – sold at £800.

Twelve bottles of Chateau d’Issan 1990 fetched £480.
