The Amazing Spider Man Comics News Page Top

Marvel and DC classics in Lichfield sales

VINTAGE comics go under the hammer at The Lichfield Auction Centre for the next three weeks.

Highlights include The Amazing Spider-Man #2 from May 1963 and an almost a complete run of Daredevil comics including the first one from April 1964.

Look out for them in Richard Winterton Auctioneers' upcoming Antique & Home Sales, which all start at 9am.

Featuring on Monday, November 24, are a collection of more than 130 DC Adventure Comics with many featuring Super Girl.

The sale also features:

  • Shazam! Volume 1 #1, featuring the first Silver Age appearance of Shazam
  • The Incredible Hulk #4, pence variant
  • A collection of DC Comics including Superboy, Supergirl, World's Finest and Forever People.

The auction on Monday, December 1, includes hundreds of vintage comics from the 1960s onwards.

One single owner Marvel collection has an almost complete run of Daredevil comics, including the first-ever from April 1964.

Being sold separately, that single comic is valued at £400 to £600.

The rest of the collection includes more than 360 Daredevil comics from #8 to #380.

There's also an impressive collection of early DC Justice League comics, estimated at £700 to £900.

And on Monday, December 8, look out for 34 vintage Marvel comics catalogued across 21 lots.

Of particular interest is The Amazing Spider-Man #2 from May 1963, pictured below, estimated at £400-£500.

This comic features the first appearance of Vulture and – interestingly – is actually the third appearance of Spider-Man, as Spidey was first introduced in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962.

Also under the hammer on December 8, pictured at the top of the page, The Amazing Spider-Man #298, #299 and #300 – the first appearances of Venom.

Number 298 features the first appearance of Eddie Brock, the character who would become Venom, and is also the first issue in the series to be drawn by iconic artist Todd McFarlane.

Number 299, published by Marvel in April 1988, features the first cameo appearance of Eddie Brock in the Venom symbiote costume, setting the stage for Venom's first full appearance in #300 – also a special 25th anniversary issue.

The three comics are to be sold as one lot, estimated at £200-£300.
