Auction preview: Rare fine malt whisky in special timed sale

A 'SENSATIONAL' single owner collection of rare fine Scottish malt whisky takes pride of place in a special timed sale online with Richard Winterton Auctioneers soon.

The auction will go live at 5pm on Friday, November 21 and closes from 9am on Wednesday, December 3.

Starting the catalogue from Lot 1 is the prestigious single owner collection featuring exclusive, rare fine Scottish single malt whisky, running to 60 lots and estimated to fetch between £15,000 and £20,000.

Cataloguer Robert French said: "This single owner collection is a whisky connoisseur's dream.

"It is simply a sensational collection of some of the finest bottles I have ever had the pleasure to research and catalogue.

"This special timed auction will be a dream for all whisky lovers and collectors as well as the perfect opportunity to treat yourself or a fellow afficionado to a unique Christmas present."

The collection was consigned following an initial valuation at The Auction Café in Market Street, Lichfield.

Viewing of all the whisky, wine, port, brandy and other alcohol in the upcoming auction takes place by appointment at The Lichfield Auction Centre, Fradley Park.

Lot 1: The Macallan, a one litre bottle of The Macallan Cask Strength 10 Year Old Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky, exclusively matured in sherry oak casks from Jerez, 57.2% volume, fill level low neck, seal intact, boxed. Est. £800-£1,000

Lot 2: The Macallan, a one litre bottle of The Macallan Cask Strength 10 Year Old Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky, exclusively matured in sherry oak casks from Jerez, 58.5% volume, fill level low neck, seal intact, boxed. Est. £800-£1,000

Lot 4: A 700ml bottle from Douglas Laing's Old & Rare Platinum Selection, a single cask, single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Banff Distillery in March 1971, bottled in March 2008, aged 37 years, natural cask strength 53.0% volume, limited edition bottling 207/271, fill level bottom neck, seal intact, in a wooden presentation box with certificate of authenticity. Est. £500-£600

Lot 5: Another 700ml bottle from Douglas Laing's Old & Rare Platinum Selection, a single cask, single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Banff Distillery in March 1971, bottled in March 2008, aged 37 years, natural cask strength 53.0% volume, limited edition bottling 118/271, fill level bottom neck, seal intact, in a wooden presentation box with certificate of authenticity. Est. £500-£600

Lot 6: A 700ml bottle from Douglas Laing's Old & Rare Platinum Selection, a single cask, single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Glen Keith Distillery in December 1971, bottled in May 2007, aged 35 years, natural cask strength 52.6% volume, limited edition bottling 21/182, fill level bottom neck, seal intact, in a wooden presentation box with certificate of authenticity. Est. £500-£600

Lot 8: A 70cl bottle from Blackadder, a raw cask single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Glenugie Distillery in November 1981, 24 years old, 61.8% volume, limited edition bottling 294/562, fill level low neck, seal intact, boxed. Est. £300-£400

Lot 12: A 70cl bottle from Rare Malts Selection, a natural cask strength, single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Clynelish Distillery in 1974, aged 23 years, 51.9% volume, limited edition bottling number 2038, fill level low neck, seal intact, boxed. Est. £800-£1,000

Lot 17: A 70cl bottle from Blackadder, a raw cask single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Port Ellen Distillery in November 1982, 21 years old, 62.7% volume, limited edition bottling 240/563, fill level low neck, seal intact, boxed. Est. £600-£700

Lot 18: A 700ml bottle from Duncan Taylor Peerless Cask Strength Rare Auld Island Scotch Whisky, distilled at the Highland Park Distillery in May 1966, bottled in September 2003, aged 37 years, 40.9% volume, cask number 4637, limited edition bottling 130/148, fill level low neck, seal intact, boxed. Est. £500-£700

Lot 39: A 70cl bottle from Signatory Vintage Cask Strength Collection Speyside Single Malt, distilled at Glencraig in August 1975, bottled August 2004, aged 28 years, 57.1% volume, cask number 7934, limited edition bottling 50/181, fill level lower shoulder, seal intact, in a presentation tin. Est. £500-£600

Lot 45: A 70cl bottle from Blackadder, a raw cask single malt Scotch whisky distilled at the Glenury Distillery in June 1973, bottled November 2003, aged 30 years, 50.7% volume, cask number 6861, limited edition bottling of 167 bottles, fill level low neck, seal intact, unboxed. Est. £500-£600

Later in the sale, whisky from other vendors includes a special set of nine Diageo Game Of Thrones Limited Edition Collection of Single Malts comprising:

• Cardhu Gold Reserve 'House Targaryen', 40% vol.
• Dalwhinniw Winter's Frost 'House Stark', 43% vol.
• Lagavulin Aged Nine Years 'House Lannister', 46% vol.
• The Singleton Glendullan Select 'House Tully', 40% vol.
