We Love Lichfield 2019 champion

LICHFIELD auctioneer Richard Winterton has been named as the first-ever We Love Lichfield fundraising champion.

The family firm has so far raised more than £5,000 for the fund.

A stunned Mr Winterton was presented with the surprise accolade at the charity’s 2019 Christmas giveaway event at The George Hotel in Lichfield on Friday, December 13.

The ceremony hosted by We Love Lichfield patron Simon Price saw grants given out to numerous voluntary groups and organisations.

And Hi-de-hi star Su Pollard made a special guest appearance to present longstanding supporter Mr Winterton with an engraved silver salver and name him fundraising champion of 2019.

“The We Love Lichfield Christmas giveaway is always an inspiring event which highlights such a diverse range of stories from groups across our district,” he said.

“I feel passionately about the fund and its continuous work to help and support so many wonderful local charities and volunteers.

“It is already a pleasure and a privilege to be involved so to be named We Love Lichfield fundraising champion 2019 is the absolute icing on the cake – as well as a huge surprise!

“It is an incredible honour which left me completely choked and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at We Love Lichfield.

“I’d also like to pay tribute to all those members of the fund who work so hard throughout the year ensuring the continuation of this vital support for our communities.”

We Love Lichfield is a local fund providing small grants to a wide range of projects based only in Lichfield District.

The fund considers all applications for up to £500 from local groups twice a year and has given away over £200,000 worth of funds during the past seven years – equating to a grant every 10 days.
