Spectacular evening for annual gala
LICHFIELD’S auctioneer said he was 'honoured' to act as compère for one of the city’s most cherished musical celebrations.
Richard Winterton took to the stage with the British Police Symphony Orchestra for the 26th Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park on Saturday, September 6.
Family, friends and colleagues joined crowds of 10,000 people watching the unforgettable evening.
This year’s musical line-up began with the City of Lichfield Concert Band and a lively programme of popular classical pieces, toe-tapping medleys, jazz, film scores and pop favourites.
There followed another powerful performance by the British Police Symphony Orchestra, delivering a specially arranged selection of music culminating in much-loved Proms classics – with Richard Winterton as compère stepping in for Danny Mizon, who is recovering from surgery.
The evening finished with a spectacular fireworks display.
Richard said: “I was honoured and delighted to be asked to step in as compère for the British Police Symphony Orchestra at this year's Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park.
“The Proms is such a special fixture in Lichfield District’s calendar as families and friends gather to wave farewell to the summer.
“With a fabulous programme of operetta, famous film scores and sing-along Proms favourites, it was a spectacular evening.”
He added: “Danny Mizon’s were huge shoes to step into. He was missed this year as he recovers from prostate cancer surgery and we all wish him well.”
