Rare WW2 US Air Force military Bulova A-15 watch flies to auction in Lichfield

June 5th, 2025

WW2 US Air Force Military Bulova A 15 Pilot's Watch Hero

Sale date Monday 9th June

A SCARSE World War Two era US military wristwatch is coming up for auction in Lichfield on Monday, June 9.

As few as 500 examples of the Bulova A-15 pilot's watch are thought to have been produced at the tail-end of WW2.

The United States Army Air Forces' Air Technical Service Command (ATSC) began assessing the timepiece in 1944 but the model never moved into full scale production.

The A-15 'Elapsed Time Watch' incorporated an ingenious inner and outer rotating chapter ring with the discs operated by two crowns.

The two o'clock crown indicated elapsed time and the four o'clock crown serves to show dual time.

The watch has a hand-wound movement and its distinctive black dial features Arabic numerals and a railroad track minute scale in classic military fashion.

The example pictured here is offered as Lot 468 in the June 9 Antique & Home Sale.

Its plated case has an approximate width of 32mm and the case back is stamped: "Type A-15 serial no AF 44 - 34 part no 10AK - CSHE order no P.O. 44-5995E Bulova Watch Co."

Condition report: unable to remove case back, general moderate wear, watch winds but not currently working.

Please note that Richard Winterton Auctioneers cannot guarantee the working condition of any watch.

The June 9 sale takes place at The Lichfield Auction Centre and starts at 9am.

Viewing in person takes place on Friday, June 6, from 10am until 4pm.
