Preview: £10,000 collection of rare Pokémon cards goes to auction in Lichfield

AUCTIONEERS hope a collection of rare Pokémon will fetch £10,000 under the hammer on Monday, June 9.

Catalogued across 17 lots, the collection includes 10 complete or near-complete sets.

Especially of interest are nine rare 1st edition Base Set cards, of which eight are holo cards.

Estimated at £2,000 to £3,000, the lot features the shadowless 1st edition Machamp as well as Mewtwo, Blastoise, Clefairy, Chansey, Gyarados, Magneton, Pidgeotto and Hitmonchan.

Other highlights include a complete 1st edition Neo Revelation set including Shining Magikarp and Shining Gyarados, all cards in excellent to mint condition, estimated at £3,000 to £4,000; a Neo Destiny Shining Charizard 107/105 in excellent condition estimated at £1,000 to £1,500; and a complete 1st edition Jungle set, estimated at £800 to £1,000.

The collection was consigned at The Lichfield Auction Centre following a routine valuation with Richard Winterton Auctioneers.

Viewing in person takes place on Friday, June 6, from 10am until 4pm.
