Pokemon collection sells for £6,600

AN EXTENSIVE collection of early Pokemon cards in an original binder has sold at auction in Lichfield for £6,600.

The cards featured in Richard Winterton Auctioneers’ Antiques & Home Sale on October 26, held online-only live from The Lichfield Auction Centre, Wood End Lane, Fradley Park as Lot 446 and attracted international interest.

Housed in an original Pokemon folder, the collection included are a complete Base set, Base set 2, Fossil set, Jungle set, Teen Rocket set including the rare ‘secret’ Dark Raichu, pictured, card numbered 83/82.

There were also a Pokemon Topps First Movie trading card set and checklist, assorted Japanese and other cards including Ancient Mew and promotional cards.

Lot 558 in the same sale featured another collection of more than 500 Pokemon cards from various sets including Base set, Base set 2, Fossil, Gym Challenge, Gym Heroes, Jungle, Legendaries, Team Rocket, Neo Genesis, Neo Discovery, Team Rocket Collection and the Japanese Base and Gym Challenge sets.

With the majority of these cards in very good condition in plastic sleeves in an original Pokemon folder, the set sold for triple the estimate at £440.

In July 2020, a rare complete 1st edition Pokemon base set sold online with Richard Winterton Auctioneers for £25,000.
