Jewellery and watches at The Hub

IMAGINE finding thousands of pounds tucked away in the back of a dressing table drawer or bedside cabinet.

An heirloom, a keepsake, that old curiosity; whatever it is could be just a trinket. Or it could be some serious treasure…

Such a triumphant revelation may be closer than you think – all you need to do is speak to the right people.

That expert advice is on hand at The Hub at St Mary's, Market Square, Lichfield WS13 6LG, courtesy of Richard Winterton Auctioneers.

The family firm – which has been auctioneering in the city for seven generations – holds free weekly valuations specialising in jewellery and watches at The Hub between 9.30am-12.30pm every Monday (except bank holidays; and December 23 and December 30 due to Christmas holidays).

It’s a chance to meet gemmologists, jewellery experts and watch specialists upstairs at St Mary’s for free advice, auction estimates and help uncovering the story behind the treasure in hand.

The line-up includes gemmologist Heather Callaway, vintage jewellery expert Louise Ludlam-Snook and watch valuer Ben Winterton.

Countless treasures have been valued at St Mary’s and put through auction since the partnership with Richard Winterton Auctioneers began.

These include a stunning diamond necklace which fetched £10,500, a large single-stone diamond ring which went under the hammer for £7,000 and a gent’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual wristwatch selling for £1,500 (pictured clockwise from top).

A special luxury sale (pictured above) held in the venue in July also raised £1,500 for charity.

The Winterton family name has been synonymous with auctioneering in Staffordshire since 1864, with early beginnings at Lichfield’s former Smithfield livestock market.

As well as Mondays at The Hub, free valuations of jewellery, watches, antiques and all manner of collectables are offered at The Lichfield Auction Centre off Wood End Lane, Fradley Park, every Tuesday between 9.30am-4pm.
