COUNTRY HOUSE & DECORATIVE ARTS 12TH DECEMBER SALE REPORT
Richard Winterton Auctioneers are thrilled to report that the Christmas Country House and Decorative Art sale on Monday 12th December was a huge success.
The auction catalogues were up on the internet and back from the printers earlier than usual which generated more interest than in previous months. Coupled with additional viewing hours, the sale was made more available to everybody.
A good collection of early Derby ceramics dominated the early part of the sale and sold well over guide generating a combined hammer price of £7,200.
Paintings sold particularly well, with a George Turner oil realising £2,800, a collection of Tony Forrest animal portraits £1,000 and a Willem Sternberg de Beer £2,500. As always, traditional portraiture was strong with a George Clare still life fruit realising £400 and a pair of Oliver Clare still life studies made £300.
As is expected at this festive time of year, jewellery, watches, silver, wines and spirits sold very well on the day. Particular wines and spirit highlights include The Macallan Anniversary Malt, 25 years old bottled in 1984 in wooden box which was eventually knocked down for £2,600, a 30 year old bottle of Macphails £110, a bottle of 1993 Dom Perignon £130 and a bottle of 1979 vintage Krug sold for £300. A four piece silver tea service sold for £680, another four piece silver tea service made £800, and a collection of silver pin cushions and vestas collectively sold for £2,400.

An interesting single owner collection of miners lamps to include a vintage frog lamp, an American Koehler safety lamp, Davy lamps, and several Patterson and John Davies and Sons examples generated a total hammer of £1,160.
A good selection of militaria generated huge interest with a Laco WWII Beobachtungsuhr pilots watch realising £2,600, a model Bergmann pistol £6,000 and a German Third Reich Kriegsmarine officers dagger £360.
