A quick study: Why auction is the perfect place for students setting up home
We had high fives as the hammer came down the other week, writes Richard Winterton.Admittedly not an entirely unusual reaction to a successful room bid, although the lot in question was not a rare Rolex, collectable ceramic or priceless painting – but a Dyson vacuum cleaner!
The high-fivers were students looking to kit out their digs for the new term with furniture and practical appliances.
They sure came to the right place.
For our busy auction house, it’s not just about fine art, jewellery and antiques.
We handle a tremendous amount of household electricals, from TVs and hi-fi to all manner of white goods and kitchen appliances.
Richard Winterton Auctioneers' regular general Antiques & Home Sales are the perfect place to find a great deal on anything for the home, including plates, glassware and cutlery.
Ideal for students making the move to university where as well as cleaning up on grades they’ll have rooms to keep tidy – and furnish in the first place.
Incredibly exciting, certainly, and potentially expensive. But it doesn’t have to be.
The Lichfield Auction Centre is an Aladdin’s cave for the home and if you’ve never been to auction before, don’t worry – our friendly staff are here to help.
Our student clients first browsed the catalogue online then came in to view and talked it all through, which really helped them make up their minds.
They understood what they were buying, were fascinated by the whole experience and, when it came to auction day, thoroughly enjoyed themselves and ended up filling up the boot of the car with stuff to take up to Stoke.
Richard Winterton Auctioneers' Antiques & Homes Sales are the perfect place to find a great deal on anything for the home.
From vacuums, lamps, kettles and toasters to pans, ceramics and glasses, the saleroom is perfect for students. You can kit out the kitchen for a fraction of the cost.
It’s a sound port of call for landlords, too, and those setting up their first home.
There’s so much reasonably priced furniture, tapping into trends from vintage and shabby chic to the clean lines of mid-20th century design.
Antiques nestle alongside modern oak, retro pieces and Victoriana, with lots of opportunity for upcycling and reusing resources – something we all know we should be doing.
As well as sofas, tables and chairs and bedroom furniture, our auctions are the ideal place to find desks, office chairs, pictures, mirrors, vases and rugs.
Appliances include fridges, freezers, tumble driers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners and power tools along with other electricals such as televisions, vintage record players and modern hi-fi sound systems.
And we PAT test.
It’s perfectly possible to secure a practically new Sony, Samsung or LG TV at auction for just £100.
That’s definitely worth a high five!
