A MEDALS and militaria consultant has teamed up with a former SAS operator to offer free valuations at a special event in Hereford.
Nick Thompson, from Richard Winterton Auctioneers, will be at HR4K Hereford in Rotherwas from 10.30am to 1.30pm on Friday, May 16.
Mr Thompson will carry out specialist appraisals of medals and all types of military items at the Thorn Business Park venue.
A community focused lifestyle company and coffee shop, HR4K was founded by former 22 SAS operator Ben Garwood in 2016.
“On May 16 I will be offering a free valuation service of military items, medals, badges, insignia, uniform, kit, et cetera,” said Mr Thompson.
“Should it be time to move any items or collections on we offer a very competitive service placing your items in one of our specialist military sales held regularly, where bidders local, nationwide and worldwide can bid.”
He added: “Ben Garwood and his team have been very helpful in allowing this event to take place.
“HR4K is a great coffee shop, café and networking destination where lots of military, ex-military and like-minded people get together.”
Closer to home, Mr Thompson will be offering free valuations of medals and militaria at The Auction Café on Wednesday, May 14, between 10am and 12.30pm.
Special Forces items have stormed to success under the hammer at The Tamworth Auction Rooms, with a collection relating to the Special Air Service attracting bidders online, in the room and over the telephone.
One lot, selling at £1,600, included SAS insignia, beret badge and photographs relating to Number 2 Troop A SQDN SAS in the Malayan Emergency from 1951 to 1952.
"We at Richard Winterton Auctioneers have brushed shoulders in the past with members of this elite unit,” said Mr Thompson.
“In March 2020 we brought to auction the medals and archive of a former member of the Parachute Regiment and 22 SAS Peter McAleese, who sadly passed away in March 2024.
“Peter’s collection made £25,000.
"So far this year we have been honoured to be able to bring to a number of our military sales a huge collection from a veteran of the Signals Regiment (UKSF) who has deployed with the SAS overseas and at home.
“This included badges, medals, insignia, paperwork and personal items of uniform, with some rare items going back as far as the Second World War.”
Free valuations of medals or militaria can be booked at The Tamworth Auction Rooms – email tamworth@richardwinterton.co.uk or telephone 01827 217746 – and The Lichfield Auction Centre, Wood End Lane, Fradley Park – telephone 01543 251081 or email office@richardwinterton.co.uk.
