Liam loses long locks in charity hair cut

A LONGHAIRED Lichfeldian has lost his luscious locks to raise more than £1,500 for charity.

Liam Thompstone, 23, had grown his mane for two years before finally parting with his ponytail on Saturday, September 5.

The porter at Richard Winterton Auctioneers braved the barber in aid of the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real-hair wigs to children with cancer to restore their confidence and identity.

His hippie hair now destined for use in a wig, Liam’s flowing locks were followed by flowing donations.

An initial target of £500 was rapidly overtaken, with colleagues at The Lichfield Auction Centre digging deep alongside other friends and family on Just Giving.

£179.30 came from colleagues in the firm’s Furniture Department, with a further £220 from other donations dating back to pre-lockdown charity talks.
Auctioneer Richard Winterton pledged £250 to the pot – and this was matched by one of the firm’s logistics partners, Paul Fawkner at Van4Us.

Liam’s tally now sits at an impressive £1,581 and money is still coming in.

“I am pleased with the result although I’m now a bit cold,” the perfectly-pruned porter joked.

“I keep going to flick my long hair back and it isn’t there any more.

“But no, all joking aside, it is such a worthwhile cause and I am so pleased I’ve been able to help out.

“I am really grateful to all my friends, family and everyone at Richard Winterton Auctioneers for their kind support – that is so, so important and I’m delighted that we have absolutely smashed my initial target.”

The mane main... Liam's ponytail is no more.

Liam added: “I can also wholeheartedly recommend the experience.”

Not surprising, as this is in fact the second time the hirsute hero has undergone a drastic hair cut for the Little Princess Trust.

Richard Winterton added: “We are really proud of Liam. He’s been growing his hair for two years for the Little Princess Trust and this result for the charity is a great achievement.

"He really is a cut above!”

Liam, who lives in Lichfield, can still be sponsored on Just Giving via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/liam-thompstone2.

Liam’s flowing locks and more than £1,500 are going to the Little Princess Trust.
