Nine lots we LOVE in our September sale

IT'S super September and time for our autumn Fine & Decorative Arts Sale!

The auction on September 18 has a fabulously varied catalogue packed with more than 600 lots. Here's nine which have us dreaming...

Lot 319 A rare Royal Doulton Boy On A Crocodile

Known as HN373, this rarity from Royal Doulton was introduced in 1920 and withdrawn by 1938. Just six are known to exist; one has previously sold for £7,000. This specific piece is not previously recorded at auction. Est. £4,000-£6,000*

Lot 233 A Rolex GMT-Master in stainless steel

One of the ultimate status symbols when it comes to luxury goods in general and watches in particular. This example circa 1964 is on the original jubilee steel bracelet. Model number 1675, black dial and bi-colour bezel designed to distinguish daylight times from the hours of darkness. Here is an original of a model recently reintroduced by Rolex. Est. £11,000-£14,000*

Lot 187 A famous diamond replica set

Here in rock crystal is a set of stones intricately cut to replicate world-famous diamonds including Great Mogul, Shah of Persia, Koh-i-noor and Cullinan I to IX. All tested as quartz except three coloured replicas of the Hope, Dresden Green and Tiffany which are assessed as synthetic blue spinel and glass. Est. £1,500-£2,500*

Lot 538 Aubrey Williams (Guyana 1926-1990) ‘Hill In Jamaica’

An impressionist landscape by the influential artist, signed, titled and dated 1979. Unframed canvas, 71cm x 116cm. We watch this with great interest – in June, Richard sold 'Guyana X' by Aubrey Williams way above estimate for £3,200. Williams was one of the founders of the Caribbean Artist’s Movement in 1966 and we believe the price achieved for ‘Guyana X’ may be an auction record for this artist. Est. £800-£1,200*

Lots 1 to 186 A large collection of gemstones

Beatifully arranged across 188 lots (pictured is Lot 119) this extraordinary collection includes diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, garnet, beryl, opal, quartz, chrysoberyl, peridot, spinel, tourmaline, feldspar, zircon, shell and amber. Also to include carved rocks, minerals and gemstones. Absolute manna from heaven for gemmologists!

Lot 227 An 18ct gold three stone old cut diamond ring

What a sparkler! Estimated overall diamond weight 3.16ct, colour assessed as H-I, clarity assessed as VS2-SI1. Approximate gross weight 3.8 grams. Est. £6,000-£8,000*

Lot 506 The Culloden Bottle

A bottle of Glenmorangie Single Highland Malt Whisky vintage 1971. A special limited edition bottling commemorating the 250th anniversary of the battle. This bottle is number 1,552 of only 2,500 produced. Seal intact and in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. Est. £1,000-£1,200*

Lot 662 Ab Rogers bespoke children’s pod bed

One of an opposing pair of bright red beds built for the children of art dealer Kenny Schachter by architect Ab Rogers – son of the architect Richard Rogers. The children provided pictures of race cars, spaceships and SpongeBob SquarePants to help inspire the design, which Rogers created from fibreboard with a high gloss finish. He incorporated space for a TV as well as a mattress and there’s also a hydraulic door on the end opened by a button. Est. £300-£500*

Lot 605 A Victorian burr walnut piano davenport

This lovely antique piece has a hidden stationary compartment with two pigeon holes and three small drawers and the sloped front encloses a pull-out writing surface with pen rest and inkwell. Est. £800-£1,200*

*All prices are subject to buyer’s premium of 24% inclusive of 20% VAT
