TAMWORTH people can have their antiques, collectables and curiosities valued for free at special monthly events in the town.
Richard Winterton, auctioneer of television favourites Bargain Hunt and Dickinson's Real Deal, and other expert valuers will be at the Wedgwood Suite at the Castle Hotel, Ladybank, from 11am-12.30pm on Mondays February 25 and March 25.
He will be accompanied by jewellery specialist Louise Ludlam-Snook and wine, whisky and port valuer Rob French.
Following each Tamworth event, the trio will then set up in Sutton Coldfield at The Trinity Centre, Church Hill, Mill Street, from 2-3.30pm.
“There will be people who are sitting on an absolute fortune yet be completely unaware,” the auctioneer said.
“That little curio in the back of a drawer or tucked away in an old jewellery box could be worth hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds.
“Come and see us and together let’s find out if that heirloom or work of art is worth a fortune.”
Richard Winterton Auctioneers, based at The Lichfield Auction Centre at Fradley Park, has made some stunning discoveries in Tamworth.
These include a bottle of 1968 Chateau Petrus Pomerol, which sold at auction in December for £1,200.
The wine was part of a collection including sought-after whiskies which sold in the same auction for hundreds of pounds per bottle.
Another notable Tamworth find was a rare alternate poster for the 1964 James Bond classic Goldfinger, which sold for £6,700 – thought to be the highest price ever paid at auction for such an item.
Also discovered in Dosthill, but at another address, was a signed letter from first man on the moon Neil Armstrong, on NASA letterheaded paper and sent one month before the lunar landing, which sold for £620.
Mr Winterton also carries out free valuations at Burton Albion Community Football Centre on the Pirelli Stadium site in support of Burton Albion Community Trust every Thursday from 10-11am.
