December Fine & Decorative Arts Sale

A DIAMOND ring valued at £30,000 and a treasure trove of rare wine, whisky, cognac and vintage port are among the lots in Richard Winterton’s Fine & Decorative Arts Sale at The Lichfield Auction Centre next week.
The auction, from 10am on Wednesday, December 12, features a host of dazzling lots including the stunning 18ct gold diamond cluster ring - pictured here - which has been certified by experts in London’s New Bond Street as a natural ‘fancy intense yellow’ colour.
As well as dozens of pieces of fine jewellery, the auction also features rare watches, silver, ceramics and glass, works of art, paintings and fine designer furniture.
A 1968 bottle of Petrus pomerol – a wine vintage which rarely comes to auction – is estimated to fetch at least £1,000.
It is part of a huge wine and whisky collection, which includes several hundred bottles of whisky, dozens of bottles of fine wine and vintage port and cognacs such as special edition Remy Martin and Courvoisier.
The auction also features a mirror, expected to fetch in excess of £10,000, which belonged to Captain Edward John Smith, who went down with the ill-fated liner Titanic in 1912.
Included with the silver-framed easel mirror - pictured above - which sat on Captain Smith’s dressing table at his home in Stoke on Trent, is a handwritten note explaining the item’s provenance and telling the spooky story of how the late captain’s face can be seen again in the mirror on each anniversary of the sinking!
Among the lots of furniture are a Victorian oak wind-out dining table, estimated at £800, and a Richard Young for Merrow Associates rosewood and chrome circular dining table - pictured below - featuring a central white melamine lazy susan, which is expected to go under the hammer for £800.
People can view the lots at The Lichfield Auction Centre on Saturday, December 8 from 9.30am until noon, on Monday, December 10 from 10am-4pm, on Tuesday, December 11 from 10am-6pm and on the morning of sale from 8.30am.
“There is something for everyone – it’s a great opportunity to pick up a Christmas present which really has the wow factor,” said auctioneer Richard Winterton.
