Medal collection built up by generations of the same family to be auctioned

A VAST collection of medals covering virtually every conflict in which the British Army and Navy have been involved since the early 1800s is up for auction at Lichfield next week.
The huge array of medals was built up over many years by members of the Tudor family – Arthur Tudor originally saw military service in the 1800s and Edward Harold Tudor served in the First World War.
Their descendent, who lives in Royal Sutton Coldfield, has now decided to pass the collection on so others can share this incredible military legacy.
The medals will to be auctioned at the Lichfield Auction Centre at Fradley Park, off the A38, from noon on April 30.
“Both Arthur and Edward saw the history and stories behind these medals and they collected quality items throughout,” said Nick Thompson, medal and militaria consultant at Richard Winterton Auctioneers.
“This is one of the finest collections to come to auction for years.”
Also going under the hammer at the sale next week are thousands of collectable coins including thousands of gold sovereigns, a collection of almost 800 British military cap badges and helmet plates and militaria ranging from WW1 rifle bayonets and war diaries to radio receivers, binoculars and a WW2 US major’s dress uniform jacket.
Mr Thompson said: “The badges represented cover almost every line regiment and corps from the late 1800s through to the recent past.
“This sale will attract attention from the keen enthusiast, dealer, and beginner alike and, together with other items of medals and militaria, will form a significant part of the sale.”
Richard Winterton’s Coins, Medals and Militaria Sale starts at 12noon on Monday, April 30. Viewing is on Saturday, April 28, from 9.30am to 12noon and on the morning of sale from 8.30am.
