Novel ideas for Christmas presents

It might seem a long time in the future but the turkeys are already being ordered, family discussions as to whose turn it is to host and careful consideration of appropriate gifts are all under scrutiny. With only ten weeks to go, it will soon be time to get out the Christmas tree stand, find out the lights and decorations, dig out last years Christmas card list to check off who reciprocated with sending of cards and start trawling the internet and shops for the ideal gifts to give to those special people in your life. This is where the auction world really comes into its own. If it is truly a unique gift you are looking for, why not start viewing auction catalogues to see what they have in upcoming sales in the run up to Christmas? Here at Richard Winterton Auctioneers, we still have another five auctions before the big event so rest assured you have not left it too late, yet!

Previously considered an environment dominated by an older clientele, this attitude has been shunned of late and we are finding the auction world is becoming infiltrated by a refreshing younger generation. This can be seen in the changes in buying and selling trends.

Typically, there are some two hundred and fifty lots of jewellery and silver on offer every auction, needless to say, being part of the second hand, pre-loved market, everything from the traditional to the contemporary is on offer. From a beautiful old fashioned solitaire diamond to a 1960’s stylistic enamelled necklace, there are items to suit every taste and every pocket.

If jewellery and silver aren’t what you have in mind, why not look to the collectable section of the sale where treen curios, workboxes, and clocks feature, or even a ceramic figurine, vase or paperweight might be the order of the day.

Not forgetting the man in your life, should you choose to stray away from the very traditional cufflink or tie pin approach, at our Cross Keys saleroom we have all manner of boys toys coming up for auction, from Dinky vehicles to autographed memorabilia and vintage comics.

To solve the problem of having to use emergency chairs and tables, why not treat yourself to an extending table with chairs to accommodate the Christmas party? We always have several up for grabs in all manner of shapes, sizes and styles.

And true to form in the run up to Christmas, we have an extensive collection of wines and whisky coming up for auction from champagne and malt whisky to vintage port and red wine, we have got the Christmas tipple covered!!

If you are still in a quandary as to what to buy, how about the easy option of letting your beloved choose for themselves and buying auction gift vouchers? That way, an item of choice in a future sale can be eagerly anticipated and purchased.
