Auction Report: Medals & Militaria

Medals and Militaria Specialist Sale - Wednesday 20th April

We were delighted to offer around 100 lots in the quarterly Medals & Militaria sale. The sale included a variety of swords, badges, accessories alongside several medal lots.

Highlights in the sword section included lot 241 - a Japanese? Parade Sword which doubled its top guide and sold for £110. Similarly, a German? Naval Officers Sword and Scabbard sailed over the guide, selling for £70. Lot 249, a Victorian Brass Mounted Presentation Sword and Scabbard sold for £180.

Interest in the numerous lots of badges was mainly concentrated on lots 218, 219, 227, 232. A large collection of badges, devices  and buttons doubled its lower guide a £120, whilst a large frame containing 63 UK military cap badges reached £190. Another glazed frame containing UK military badges topped the bidding at £150 and lot 232, a metal tin containing Royal Naval decorations sold for £140.

The medals rounded off the Medals & Militaria sale. There was a wide variety of medals in the auction - including those from the Boer War, WWI and WWII eras. Highlights in the medals section were lot 260 - a Distinguished Service Medal - which sold for £700, lot 256 - a pair of Queens and Kings South Africa medals, sold for £240 whilst another Queens South Africa medal together with China War medal topped the bidding at £280. A WWII Group of Medals finished at £440 and lot 272 a collection of WWII RAF Medals and related items sold for £700. The top seller in the Medals section was lot 293, a Glazed Frame containing a WWII Group of Five Medals. After furious bidding from buyers online, in the room as well as telephone buyers, the hammer fell at £1,300.

The next Medals & Militaria sale will be held on 21st July; entries are now invited. Nick Thompson, Medals & Militaria Consultant is available for valuations - for dates and times, please click here.
