A flying start to the New Year at Richard Winterton Auctioneers

The first week back meant sale week at Richard Winterton Auctioneers. With a real buzz around the place and a bustling viewing day, our buyers were eager to start 2016. Pre-sale, many lots attracted interest from our global audience with highly fought competition over several lots. We achieved a quite outstanding selling rate of 94%, with prices well above guides in every section.

We started with the Jewellery and Silver section, where it was the pocket watches that set the sale first alight, with a private collection realising over £3,000. Lot 23, a Musical Reuge pocket watch topped at £300. The pocket watches were swiftly followed by the ever-popular Pandora. Lot 25, a Pandora Bracelet complete with 16 charms sold for £200. The consistent selling continued with the jewellery, rings, necklaces and brooches, with lot 123, an 18ct single diamond ring topping the section at £420.

The strong market for silver continues to be ever present, with a private collection realising over £3,500. Richard Winterton comments: "Please, please, please don’t just scrap silver or gold, as they are both making well above scrap value in the auction rooms. We hold regular valuation events where you can bring along your jewellery for appraisal"

Ceramics and collectables continued the strong vibe with Moorcroft, Doulton, Crown Derby all enjoying success and so did glassware, with lot 346 selling at £270.

Everyone loves a good box to rummage through, with prices continuing to impress for the household items!

Day Two started with Tom Winterton on the rostrum. The pictures flew off the walls with lot 973 selling at £290. It was then into the ever popular white goods and electricals section, with demand for fridges, TVs, washing machines, etc proving strong. The top selling price was for a Bose TV system, topping the bidding at £685.

The furniture section then rounded off the sale with all lots selling to strong bidding in the room and on the internet. Lot 1357, a set of table & chairs, topped the sale at £1,700 but there was a little gem hiding... Lot 1309, a small distressed Victorian Sutherland table with no guide sold for £500.

A great start to the year!
