WONDERFUL WHITEFRIARS GLASS

Brought in within plastic carrier bags into Lichfield’s auction rooms at Hilliards Cross recently was this collection of art glassware.

Designed by Geoffrey Baxter the glass was manufactured by the Whitefriars Glass company during the 1960’s and 70’s. Although resembling something you may well find in a charity shop, if you did then it would make your day. The selection includes examples of the famous drunken bricklayer vases, sunburst vase and a rarer hooped vase. Different colours were issued, and the colour can affect the value. A marigold drunken bricklayer vase can fetch £150, whilst rarer colours such as aubergine or pewter would be higher in value. Another larger design called ‘Banjo’, (not illustrated) regularly fetch prices up to £1,000.
