The Silver, Fine Art and Jewellery Sale held last week by Richard Winterton Fine Art Auctioneers included 500 hand-picked Lots. These were sourced from many local private estates, instructions from solicitors and from the popular free valuation days held at locations throughout the region.

The auction got off to a good start with Lot 68, a Hester Bateman silver lidded tankard selling in the room for £1,850 against £1,200-1,500 expectations. Scottish jewellery proved popular with Lots 98 and 99, two 19c brooches set with polished stones totalling over £800.

A local private collection of over thirty Lots of Royal Worcester had been consigned, with most pieces dating from the factory's heyday, the early 20c. The market for Royal Worcester is strong at the moment with the highest prices being for the signed wares, particularly those by the Stintons. There were seven phone bidders and a packed saleroom. Lot 258, a pair of bottle vases, 1925 painted with Highland cattle sold for £2,900. Lot 265, a pair of twin handled pedestal vases and cover, 1909 painted with still life studies of fruit sold for £3,000 to an Australian client on the phone. The highest single price was for Lot 256, a cylinder vase, 1915 painted with stag and doe by Harry Stinton at £3,300.
