ROYAL WORCESTER TOP OF THE LOTS
The May Fine Art and Collectors Sale held by Richard Winterton Auctioneers included a private collection of antique Royal Worcester and some fine weapons/militaria.
Consigned by a Midlands private vendor, the ceramic Lots on offer included early twentieth century gilt fruit decorated wares which commanded some impressive prices. Lots 300, 301 and 302 a coffee can, dish, and a cream jug each decorated with finely detail still life studies of fruit signed by top artists Ayrton and Stinton. The three Lots totalled over £1,000. Lot 299, a gilt coffee pot decorated with fruit this time signed by A.Price sold to a telephone bidder for £1,100. Highland cattle decorated pieces by Stinton are particularly sought after in and Lot 282, a sleeve vase dating from c.1935 painted with a stag sold for £1,600.
Lot 341, a Royal Worcester teapot made a rare saleroom appearance. Dating from c.1880, the teapot design was inspired by the late Victorian ‘Aesthetic’ Movement associated with Oscar Wilde. On one side of the lid is a female face, the other side a male. Although restored, this is a highly desirable design and sold in the room for £2,500.
Included in the collectors section of the sale was a Derbyshire inherited collection of weaponry which totalled over £2,000. Highest price was for Lot 570, a 17c/19c Japanese ‘wakizashi’ in saya at £410.
Early model trains also continue in popularity with Lots 700 and 701. a boxed 1930’s Hornby ‘Lord Nelson’ locomotive and two wagons totalling £500.
