BOOMING BESWICK!

Prices for Beswick of all kinds appear to be having a bit of a boom at present. A statement cemented by the sale results at Richard Winterton’s Decorative Arts Sale this week where all of the Beswick on offer sold at prices way above pre-sale expectations. There were storong absentee bids on all Lots, phone lines booked throughout and live internet bidders poised to purchases this desirable commodity.

The Beswick factory, (which closed in 2002) is renowned worldwide for their finely detailed animal figures. Values depend on which model variation it is and the colourway in which it was issued. The equestrian figures are particularly popular. Lot 2, an Arab Stallion, No.2242 sold for £300 and lot 6, a huntswoman on horse sold for £350.

Lot 102, a walking racehorse with jockey, No.1037 brought £280. Perhaps the most unusual figure in this sale was Lot 21, an Old English sheepdog advertising Dulux Paints, discovered at the Sutton Coldfield valuation day, which sold for £310.
