COMING UP AT AUCTION Richard Winterton’s mammoth two-day Fine Art & Collectors Sale is to be held at the Burton On Trent Salerooms on Wednesday 27 th and Thursday 28 th May. Included will be one of the finest games compendiums seen by the auction house for many years which was brought to experts at one of the free valuation events. Measuring 35cm in width the box is made from coromandel. (an exotic striped hardwood) and set wit gilt metal gothic mounts and an oval pietra dura plaque. Dating from the 1860’s, this would have been a luxury item when new and probably made by Betjeman’s. The interior is as complete as one would wish it to be – games board, ivory chess/draughts pieces, Bezique/Crib boards, dice, gaming pieces, playing/score cards etc. Such items are a rarity to find in such fine complete condition. It carries an estimate of £700-900. Also included in the sale is a private consignment of rare antique coins, fine paintings, Royal Worcester ceramics, over one hundred Lots of boxed OO Gauge model trains and extensive oak room panelling in the furniture section.
