£15k ICONS OF ART DECO COMING UP AT AUCTION

Estimated to fetch a staggering £10,000-15,000, the vases were designed by one of the twentieth century’s most important designers, Gio Ponti (1891-1979). Designed for the Richard Ginori firm in Milan in the mid 1920’s, the maiolica vases show cutting edge design, which we now term ‘Art Deco’. Ponti had a distinguished career from the outset. He was actively involved in promoting Italian design and his work was not just confined to ceramics, he was an architect, writer, furniture/interior designer and teacher. In the 1930’s he received an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art, London.

Such pieces rarely appear at auction and interest has already been logged from European and USA collectors.
