BURTON DISTRICT FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION MYSTERY

Complimentary valuation days have been held at the Hawkins Lane Saleroom of Richard Winterton Auctioneers on Fridays for many years now where some valuable, rare and interesting items have been uncovered in the past.

Valuers were excited to discover last Friday a piece of local interest relating to the Burton District Football Association.

A client came in with a cartouche fob on a silver Albert. Engraved on the front is ‘Burton Football Association’ and on the reverse ‘Wanderers F.C, Bancroft’. Accompanying the fob is a large sepia photograph, (dating from the early twentieth century). Interestingly, the gentleman in the suit far left at the front is wearing what appears to be the aforementioned fob.

Can any readers shed any light on this gentleman wearing the fob or for that matter any other members of the team which may be of interest? The vendor believes it is their great granddad but any additional family information is sketchy.

The two items will be offered for public auction in the forthcoming Antique and Collectors Sale in Burton on 31 st May.
