Highlights from our recent Country House 27th September & 30th September Bonsai Tree Sale

Once again a strong sale with some great prices.

C.F. NOBLE, 'Pont L'Eveque' (S. Wragg) Winning The War Time 'Derby' at Newmarket 1940, oil on canvas, signed and dated (19)40 lower right, approximately 34cm x 60cm, together with three companion studies titled 'Chatelaine' (S. Wragg) Winning 'The Oaks Stakes 1933', signed and dated (19)33 lower right, approximately 34cm x 59.5cm, 'Greenore' (S. Wragg) Winning 'The Stewards Cup', signed and dated (19)35 lower right, approximately 39.5cm x 49.5cm and 'Negro' (S. Wragg) Winning 'The Queens Prize' 1934, signed and dated (19)34 lower right, approximately 32cm x 75cm, and a fifth unframed, titled 'Punch' (S, Wragg) Winning The 'Cesarewitch Stakes 1937', signed and dated (19)37 lower left, approximaetly 33cm x 76cm (5) sold for hammer price £1,200

A CHINESE REPUBLIC PERIOD PORCELAIN VASE, flared rim with pale turquoise glazed interior, the exterior with yellow ground decorated with flowers and scrolls with applied blue ground dragon, the lower body painted with a continuous landscape, Greek Key design to the circular foot, character seal marks to underside (s.d), height approximately 28.5cm sold hammer price £500 

A PAIR OF APPROXIMATELY 50 BORE PERCUSSION POCKET PISTOLS, fitted with 1 5/8'' damascus octagonal single barrels proved in Birmingham, their brass frames marked Collins, 12 Vigo Ln, Regent Street, London, their stocks are tastefully inlet with silver wire, the one lock appeared frozen however on deeper examination it revealed that the hammer had cracked straight through just above the frame, they are fitted with concealed triggers which appear as the hammers are cocked, each are numbered 42, they exhibit an extremely high quality of workmanship, James Collins 2nd ran a gun and pistol repository at 12 Vigo Lane, Regent Street between 1825 and 1832 prior to moving in 1833 to 115 Regent Street sold hammer price £1,050 

AN ANTIQUE 14 BORE SIDE BY SIDE PERCUSSION SHOTGUN, by J. Manton, it is fitted with 30'' damascus barrels, there is pitting in both barrels but in the recent past it has been used for game shooting, both locks are in good working condition and the barrels have been refinished externally and re-browned, it comes complete with a mahogany case complete with nipple key, powder flask and percussion cap tincondition: There is a small replacement section of wood is inserted on the left hand side. Some scratching and indents to the stock through general wear and tear. The metal butt end is very tarnished, the screws are flush to the metal suggesting removal at some point. The metal work is ok, consistent with age and use. The exterior of the barrels is as per description and the insides are pitted but certainly useable, no serial numbers visible. sold hammer price £850
